Rudraksh - The Divine Bead
Rudraksh meaning - the eye of Rudra [Shiva] is considered to be the most
potent manifestation of the Cosmic Force. Hence it is the object
of veneration and also the source to reach the higher self. Rudraksh is
often believed to symbolize the link between the earth and the heaven. For
thousands of years Rudraksh beads have been worn by mankind
for good health, religious attainment through Japa and Shakti (power) and
for fearless life.
Rudraksh as found in Nature
Rudraksh is a large evergreen broad-leaved tree which grows in the area from
the Gangetic Plain to the foothills of great Himalaya and middle
area of Nepal. Rudraksh seeds are covered by an outer shell of blue color
when fully ripe, and for this reason are also known as blueberry beads. The
blue colour is derived not from pigment but is structural.
It is an evergreen tree that grows quickly. Rudraksh Tree starts bearing
fruit in three to four years. As the tree matures, the roots buttress rising
up narrowly near the trunk and radiating out along the surface
of the ground.
